Overview

The Canon Rebel T7i includes feature-rich video options without sacrificing the sleek and portable form factor the Rebel line is known for. It maintains the 24.2MP sensor but with expanded ISO capabilities and the first in the series to sport a 45-point, all cross-type AF system within the optical viewfinder. It features on-sensor Dual Pixel CMOS AF for even quicker, more accurate, and smooth performance when shooting stills or video in Live View. For stills, all 45 phase-detection AF points are used for tracking and maintain focus during high-speed action in low-contrast and mixed lighting conditions. For video, Movie Servo AF mode along with the LCD's Touch AF system allows for easy and natural-looking rack focusing when changing subjects or distances. Note that while the stills shooting speed of this camera is 6 FPS, in Live View mode it drops down to 4.5 FPS.

The T7i supports Full HD 1080p up to 60 FPS when shooting in MP4 and also has a 3.5mm stereo microphone port for connecting external mics to give you a more professional-sounding result (external mics not included this camera also has a built-in stereo mic). Movie Electronic IS minimizes the appearance of camera shake across five axes for easier handheld recording. There is also an HDR Movie mode that will record footage at two different exposures and blends them during playback at 30 FPS for a result with better dynamic range. Additionally, Time-Lapse Movie mode condenses long stretches of time into shorter videos (with a minimum settable shutter speed of 1/25th of a second). Lastly, Creative Filters usually reserved for stills are also available for video recording, including Dream, Old Movies, and Miniature Effect Movie all fun features for home movies and family footage.

WiFi with Bluetooth is built in for linking a smartphone or tablet for quick image sharing between devices (as well as remote control capabilities) and there is a light-up indicator on the body to tell you when it is turned on. In other wireless news, the flash includes an infrared receiver so that you can optically fire off-camera flashes (through line-of-site only performance will vary based on Speedlite used and environmental conditions). If you choose to use radio transmitters, radio flash functions can be set directly from the camera (settings options differ depending on Speedlite used). This makes the T7i a great option for portrait photographers.
